Winners of the 2005 Musical Club of Hartford Scholarship Competition

Piano Competition Winners

First Place: Bonni Brodsky, 17, a senior at Hall High School in West Hartford. Her teacher is Margreet Francis at The Hartt School Community Division. She received Honorable Mention and Second Place in previous Musical Club competitions.

Second Place: Philip Back, 16, is a Junior at Farmington High School. He has studied with Sima Brodsky at Hartt School Community Division for the past nine years.

Third Place: Matthew Belanger, 16, is a Junior at Fermi High School in Enfield. He is a pupil of Bella Keyzner at Hartt School Community Division.

Honorable Mention: Zi-Yan Yan, 14, is a Freshman at Windsor High School. Her teacher is Pi-Hsun Shih at Hartt School Community Division.

Honorable Mention: Michelle Lee, 14, is a Freshman at Miss Porter's School in Farmington. She studies with Sima Brodsky at the Hartt School Community Division. She has won many honors in Audrey Thayer, Renee B. Fisher, and Hartt School events.

Vocal Competition Winners

First Place: Hannah Chin of West Hartford. Hannah is a student at Hall High School in West Hartford, and studies voice with Anna Maria Silvestri at Hartt School. .

 Second Place: Sara Rosati of Avon. Sara is a junior at Avon High School and studies music with Amy Champagne at Hartt School.

Third Place: Jessica Cain of Hamden. Jessica is a senior at Hamden High School and studies voice with Constance Rock, a professor of voice at UConn.

Honorable Mention: Jennifer McCann of Vernon. Jennifer is a senior at Rockville High School in Vernon.

Honorable Mention: Eric Rehm of Weatogue. Eric is a senior at Simsbury High School and a voice student of Joseph Baginski's.

Strings Competition Winners

First Place: Annie Wiswell, violin. Annie, 15, is a home-schooled sophomore from Easton, CT.

Second Place: GaHyun Kim, violin. A junior at Farmington High School, she is a pupil of Brunilda Myftari.

Woodwinds Winners

First Place: Chelsea Knox, flute. Chelsea is a junior and an honors student at Litchfield High School. She studies with Greig Shearer. She is in the performer’s certificate program at Hartt and was last year’s Musical Club Second Place Winner.

Second Place: Marianne Veitch, flute. A junior honors student at East Lyme High School, Marianne studies flute with Nancy Chaput.

Third Place (tie): Robert Phillips, bassoon. Robert is a senior honors student at Northwestern Regional High School. He studies with Marc Goldberg.

Third Place (tie): Nicole Jackson, clarinet. A high honors sophomore at Watkinson School, Nicole is a pupil of Dr. Richard Shillea.

There were two Honorable Mentions in the Winds competition: Lindsie Dexter, clarinet, a senior at Old Lyme High and pupil of Julie Asuma, Thames Valley Music School. Also Allegra Pincus, oboe, junior at Guilford High School and a student of Kathryn Giampietro at the Neighborhood Music School, New Haven.
