Winners and Honorable Mentions for the 2019 Musical Club of Hartford High School Piano Competition

1st Place winner: Tristan Wong
Concert performance piece: Toccata - Pierre Sancan (3:40) (Really showy)
Tristan is a 12th grader at Farmington High School, CT. He has been playing piano for 12 years and currently studies with Malgosia Lis. He has placed second at the 2018 CT Bach Festival, and honorable mention in the Musical Club of Hartford’s 2018 High School Piano Competition. Tristan is an active musician at his school, participating in the Chamber Choir, Madrigals group, and musical theater program. He has player Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof and will be playing Sebastian in The Little Mermaid. Tristan has also been a member of the NAfME All-National Honors choir, and will be a part of the 2019 All-Eastern Honors choir. In the future, Tristan hopes to continue exploring his passion for music at the collegiate level.
2nd Place winner: Grace Nieh
Concert performance piece: Rondo Capriccioso, op. 14 - Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdi  (7:16)
Grace is a 9th Grade student at the E. O. Smith High School of Mansfield, CT. She studies piano with Maggie Francis at the Hartt School. Grace has participated in the JOY! program for two years, a scholarship award that funds the lessons for young musicians; a part of this program involves performing in the Jorgensen Theater. Since seventh grade, Grace has competed in the Windham Regional Arts Competition, in which she received a piano scholarship award. She has also participated in the Young Artist Piano Competition since third grade, receiving second and third prize over the years. This past November, Grace had the opportunity to attend the Bach Festival, where she placed second in the Junior Division.
3rd Place winner: En-Hua Holtz
Concert performance piece: 3 Preludes - George Gershwin (6:50)

En-Hua is a Junior at East Lyme High School, being the accompanist for the ELHS Orchestra and a member of Tri-M. She began piano study with John Metz, currently studying under Maggie Francis. En-Hua placed second in the 2016 Jumi Festival and was a finalist in the 2016 Fischer competition. She performed piano 4-hand, trio, quartet and jazz improvisation ensembles at the 2017 and 2018 Elm City Chamberfests. She participated in the 2017 Hartford Pipe Organ Encounter and the 2018 Eastman Summer Organ Academy. She has received a 2018 Jolidon organ scholarship, studying under Ezequiel Menéndez at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
Honorable Mention was awarded to: Isaac Hu, a freshman at Lewis Mills High School, Burlington. His teacher is Tamila Azadaliyeva.
