Winners and Honorable Mentions for the 2019 Musical Club of Hartford High School Winds Competition

1st Place winner:   Madeleine Park, Flute

The First Place winner in the Musical Club of Hartford’s High School Winds Competition is Madeleine Park, a sophomore at Greenwich High School.  Born in Singapore, she started playing the flute in 3rd grade, and has been studying under Soo Kyung Park for the past 4 years.  At Greenwich HS she is Principal Flute in the Wind Ensemble, and was chosen to perform at Ct Music Educators Western Regional Festival.   Madeleine is currently enrolled in the Manhattan School of Music Precollege program, where she enjoys playing in an orchestra and chamber group. In 2018, she was a first prize winner of the Manhattan School of Music Winds and Brass Concerto Competition, 1st prize winner of the New York Flute Club Young Musicain’s Contest, and 1st prize in the Elite Competition.

2nd Place winner:     Giovanna Gioscia, Alto Saxophone

The Second Place winner in the Winds Competition is Giovanna Gioscia, a sophomore at Somers High School.  She studies with Joseph D’Aleo.  Giovanna is principal Saxophone in her High School Concert Band, Marching Band, and Pit Band.    She is a member of the in the Hartt Community Division Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble, conducted by Glen Adsit.  Giovanna has been selected to perform in honors ensembles such as the North Central Connecticut Music Festival, and the Ct Music Educators Eastern Regional Music Festival.

3rd Place winner:    Vigilance Brandon, Trumpet

 The Third Place winner in the Winds Competition was Vigilance Brandon, a senior at the Classical Magnet School in Hartford Ct.  He studies with Peter Roe.  Vilgilance is principal trumpet in his school Concert Band, and has earned honors there for musicianship and leadership, including Best Brass student for 2 years, and was honored as a ‘Winds’ coach for other Band students.
He participates in the Hartt Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble, and was selected to perform in the Ct.Music Educators All State Band  for the past 2 years.  He was also selected to perform a Jazz Big Band Recital during the Neighborhood Studios Internship program at the Artist’s Collective, sponsored by the Greater Hartford Art Council.
Vigilance would like to pursue a Liberal Arts Education in College, with a focus in music, and a possible career in music, reflecting his diverse interests and abilities.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to : Parker Schultz, alto saxophone, a sophomore at Hamden Hall County Day School. His teacher is Shane Rathburn.
       Tessa Goddu, flute, a freshman at Northwestern Regional #7 in Winsted. Her teacher is Greig Shearer.
