Musical Club of Hartford

Jun 2, 2022: Music by Members

Do you need a trip to heaven and beyond? The morning will begin with Mark Silk, flute, performing J.S. Bach’s Partita in A minor, arguably the greatest work ever written for solo flute. It is a suite of dances that can be imagined as a performance before God by a solitary angel. Angels then heavenly choirs!

The Flute Choir is a beautiful medium of musical expression! It has rich tone colors, and the alto and bass flutes give added depth to the overall sound. This program will take you through historical musical eras from Baroque to Modern musical styles! Ensemble members are: Bridget Gilchrist, Leo Snow, Mark Silk, Nancy Skeele, Deb Howarth, Anne-Marie DiFusco*, Frank DiFusco*, Diane Day (piano).
To bring us back down to earth, Fran Bard, cello, and Carolyn Woodard, piano, will perform the soulful Myaskovsky Cello Sonata, written for Rostropovich, with it’s melancholy Romanticism--possibly a discovery for most listeners. And Diane Day, piano, will perform Rachmaninoff’s Prelude No. 10, Op. 23 in G-flat major and Debussy’s 1st Arabesque in E major from Deux Arabesques.
